Sister Visits

This weekend the boys and I traveled to AR to visit my baby sister, Grace, and her family. They recently purchased an older home, remodeled and moved in. The home is located on 10 beautiful acres in the mountains of Arkansas, features a beautiful stocked pond, and has the relaxing atmosphere of a private resort.  My boys spent the day on the pond in a paddle boat with fishing rods. Talk about a haven. They splashed in the water with their cousins, cuddled with their kitten, and roasted marshmallows over a fire. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Shawn and Grace’s.

Shawn is a wonderful cook who provided three wholesome meals with plenty of variety for us all. He loves to experiment with food and share it with friends and family. I happily cleaned the kitchen in exchange for the delicious fare.

Grace and I had some quality sister bonding time just catching up and swapping kid stories. Her boys are still in that fun stage between learning independence and yet still needing Mommy. There are days I miss that sweet dependency… other times, I’m so thankful we are in this stage of life. Grace is a wonderful mother and loves her ornery boys.

My dear hubby wasn’t able to join us on the trip; he stayed home and played hostess to deer hunters and joined them in the woods. I missed him and, while it was so much fun to be gone, I can say “there’s no place like home and my hubby’s arms”.
